Web3 Score
A shield in the address bar tells you what you are on: plain Web2, content you can verify, or open and trustless Web3. You no longer have to research a site to know how much of it you are taking on trust.

The levels
| Level | What it means | Mark |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | A standard website | Web2 |
| 2 | The site publishes a hash of its files (DDOC), so you can check you got exactly what its owner published | Web2.5 |
| 3 | Its code is open source and runs nothing external without your informed consent | Web2.5 |
| 4 | Trustless in its operations and connections | Web3 |
The shield's colour follows the level, from red at level 1 to green at level 4. A level nobody has judged yet shows a grey question mark rather than a guess.
Measured or judged
Levels 1 and 2 are measured by your own machine: Orivon sees how the page was delivered and whether its files match what the owner published.
Levels 3 and 4 need a judgement no browser can make alone, such as whether code is open source. They come from a score provider you choose. The panel names the provider behind every judged level, and Orivon never presents a judged level as a measured one.
Choosing a provider
Settings > Web3 holds the provider address. Orivon's own provider is the default; you can enter
another or use none. A provider can live at any address Orivon opens: https://, ipfs:// or a
.eth name.
What a provider learns
Nothing about where you are. A lookup asks for a whole group of sites, one of 16 or 256 buckets, and your machine finds the site in the answer itself. The provider never learns which site you are on.
Judgements attach to a site's content, never to its domain name. A site whose files can change without notice has nothing stable to judge, which is why level 2 comes first.
DDOC
Domain Data Ownership Confirmation. A site publishes the hash tree of its files and anchors it in its ENS record. Orivon checks that the files you have installed match it, and the score panel shows the result.
DDOC is evidence, not a gate: a mismatch is shown, and the page still loads. Publishing a site? Publishing on IPFS and ENS explains how to reach level 2.
Run your own provider
A provider is a static site of JSON files that follows the open standard orivon-web3-score/1.
web3-score-manager builds one, and the
provider specification
describes the format.
